According to CBSE Examination Bye- Laws and Circular no- No.Coord/ROs/Attendance/2019, Date- 18.07.2019, Subject- Standard Operating Procedures for dealing with students having attendance less than the prescribed percentage of attendance- CBSE tried to ensure the importance of the classes and the attendance, CBSE is taking  following two measures:-

1. has prepared Standard Operating Procedures for dealing with students having attendance less than the prescribed percentage of attendance for the information and compliance by Schools, Students and Parents.

2. Schools are requested to communicate information and rule position to students and parents.

Minimum Attendance Required for Appearing in Final Examination in Class 9, 10, 11 and 12

The term “a regular course of study” means at least 75% of attendance in the Classes held; counted from the day of commencing teaching of Classes XII/X as the case may be, upto the 1st of the month preceding the month in which the examination of the Board commences. Candidates taking up subject(s) involving practicals are required to have put in at least 75% of the total attendance for practical work in the subject in the laboratory. Heads of Institutions shall not allow a candidate who has offered subject(s) involving practicals to take the practical examination(s) unless the candidate fulfils the attendance requirements.

Minimum Attendance for Students Participating in Sports and Game

The term “a regular course of study” means at least 60% of attendance in respect of students participating in Sports at National level organized by recognized Federations/CBSE/SGFI, the Classes held counted from the day of commencing teaching Classes XII/X, as the case may be, upto the 1st of the month preceding the month in which the examination of the Board commences. Candidates taking up a subject(s) involving practicals shall be required to have put in at least 60% of the total attendance for practical work in the subject in the laboratory. Minimum Attendance for Failed Students and Continuing in Same Class X/XII

What is meant by the term ‘a regular course of study’ in respect of Fail candidates in the context of the Senior School Certificate Examination and the Secondary School Examination? (CBSE FAQs 2019-Admission to Examinations of CBSE)

A candidate who had failed in the same examination in the preceding year and rejoins Classes XII/X is required to put in 75% of attendance calculated on the possible attendance from the 1st of the month following the publication of the results of that examination by the School/Board upto the 1st of the month preceding the month in which the examination of CBSE commences.

In the case of migration from other institutions, attendance at the institution/school recognised by the Education Department of the State/Union Territory from which the candidate migrates will be taken into account in calculating the required percentage of attendance.

Minimum Attendance for Appearing in Internal Assessment in class X and XII

What are the requirements of attendance in the subjects of Internal Assessment in the context of the Senior School Certificate Examination and the Secondary School Examination? (CBSE FAQs 2019-Admission to Examinations of CBSE)

In the internal assessment, a student from a school affiliated to the Board will be eligible to take the Senior School Certificate Examination or the Secondary School Examination conducted by CBSE only when he/she has completed 75% of attendance counted from the opening of class XII/X upto the first of the month preceding the month in which the examination commences.

Minimum Attendance for Games Participants for Appearing in Internal Assessment in class X and XII

Standard Operating Procedures for dealing with students having attendance less than the rescribed percentage of attendance

1. Schools will take following action:-

a. inform the importance of attendance and classes etc to the students and their parents in the beginning of session;

b. sensitize the students and parents about the relevant rules and about the attendance requirement during the academic session;

c. inform the students and parents the grounds on which shortage of attendance could be condoned;

d. inform the students and parents to submit medical certificate(s) from the competent authority/leave application supporting the reason for availing/taking leave as and when leave is availed;

e. warn the students and parents if they are not attending the classes regularly and maintain the records of such students;

f. will inform the parents about shortage of attendance;

g. schools will recommend the cases as per Examination Bye-Laws only;

h. Attendance will be calculated as on 1st January of the Academic session.

i. Shortage of attendance cases received in the concerned Regional Office upto 7th January of the academic session of Class X or XII will only be considered by the Board.

j. No case will be accepted after 7th January of the academic session of Class X or XII;

k. Cases without Mandatory documents will be summarily rejected.

2. In case of shortage of attendance, schools shall be required to procure following documents from the student(s)/parent(s) and submit to the concerned Regional Office of the Board while forwarding the cases for considering condonation of shortage of attendances:

CBSE considers 5 valid reasons for condonation of shortage of attendance i.e. prolonged illness, Loss of father/mother or some other such incident leading to his/her absence from the school and meriting special consideration when school management (Principal) can ask authentic supportive documents as proof before consideration and same must be sent to Regional School for approval.

Important days and Dates for Short out the Problem of Attendance

To consider attendance put in by the student(s) in view of Rule 14(i) of Examination Bye-laws upto 1st January of the academic session for Class X or XII
Schools to compile all such shortage of attendance cases at 1 above in tabular form (separately for Class X and XII) supported with documents as mentioned above. To be sent to concerned Regional Office so as to reach within 07 days of Activity at Sl.No.01 i.e. 7th January of the academic session
Regional Office will also communicate deficiency, if any, to the schools Within 15 days from the date of receipt i.e. latest by 21st January of the academic session.
Schools will communicate fulfilment of deficiency to the Regional Office Within 07 days from the date of activity at Sl.No.03 i.e. 28th January of the academic session.
Last date for according approvals by CBSE 07th February of the examination year.
