Presidency College is an art, commerce, and science college in the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India. On 16 October 1840, this school was established as the Madras Preparatory School before being repurposed as a high school, and then a graduate college. The Presidency College is one of the oldest government arts colleges in India. It is one of two Presidency Colleges established by the British in India, the other being the Presidency College, Kolkata.

Presidency College is the first and the foremost institution established by the British India Government in 1840. Since then it has developed into one of the top 10 college in India with International reputation on education and research. This Government Institution in higher education can be called as ‘The Light house of entire South India on Higher Education and Research.’ The foremost University of Madras province namely the University of Madras was started in 1857, nearly 17 years after the formation of Presidency College. On this account this college in proudly nick named as “The Mother of Madras University”. The college was conferred Autonomous status in the year 1987 and got the NAAC reaccreditation with ‘A’ Grade 90% credit.

Admission Process in Presidency College Chennai

Students are admitted to all courses offered by the college following reservation and other rules prescribed by the Government of Tamilnadu from time to time.

Applications for the courses can be obtained from the Principal, Presidency college, Chennai 600 005 in person or through post after paying the cost of application.

Candidates seeking admission to UG Degree courses should submit the Application Form in person or through post with necessary enclosures
