National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat)
NIPUN Bharat is one of the components of the NEP 2020. It covers 3 year Foundational Literacy and numeracy in the preschool and Grade 1, 2 and 3.
The National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat) is a significant mission launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education on 5th July 2021. This initiative aims to ensure that every child in India achieves foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of Grade 3 by 2026-27. NIPUN Bharat is designed to provide access to quality education during the foundational years of schooling, which are crucial for a child’s cognitive development. NIPUN Bharat sets a robust framework to address the literacy and numeracy challenges in the country by key areas such as teacher capacity building, development of high-quality learning materials, and tracking student progress.
